Bringing the Watersheds to Life

A Mosaic Workshop with Milwaukee Water Commons and Alverno College

I am thrilled to kick off my latest residency project with the Milwaukee Water Commons, collaborating with a fantastic cohort from Alverno College! This interactive mosaic project will bring the six watersheds of Milwaukee to life, combining art, education, and community engagement in a truly unique way.

Our project began today with participants from the Urban Ecology Center, Alverno alumni, and current students and staff from both the fine arts and science departments. It’s inspiring to see so many creative and curious minds come together, each contributing their talents and insights to the mosaic process. Together, we're crafting a shoreline of Lake Michigan, which will eventually transform into an interactive map complete with magnetic components that visitors can explore and learn from.

The mosaic process never disappoints—there’s something magical about watching individual pieces come together to create a cohesive and meaningful work of art. This workshop is not just about making something beautiful but also about educating and engaging the community with Milwaukee’s vital water systems. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead this project and for the enthusiasm and support of every participant involved.
